Website design and build

Midlands Connect

Project overview

We worked with Midlands Connect to create a new bold, eye-catching brochure-style website, consistent with its brand guidelines, to showcase its ambitious vision for the region and compete with similar bodies like Transport for the North and England’s Economic Heartland.

Working with key internal stakeholders we developed a website structure that met the needs of the Midlands Connects multiple audiences (local regional, national and international businesses, Members of Parliament, Government departments, public bodies, and the general public), to ensure each was able to access the content and information they required quickly and easily.

We then took relevant content being sure to develop and present it in suitable and visually engaging way for each intended audience.

A key component of the site was the development of an interactive map used to bring the key projects being investigated, planned and undertaken by Midlands Connect to life. Using an adapted version of the instantly recognisable Google maps we used graphical layering to display each project, giving users the ability to investigate and explore projects as they relate to the regions that go to make up the Midlands (https://www.midlandsconnect.uk/key-projects/).

A secure password-protected area was also developed to enable Midlands Connect to share resources (reports, presentations, meeting packs etc.) with stakeholders from the Local Authorities, Chambers of Commerce and LEPs, that form their steering groups and advisory boards. The resources area allows Midlands Connect administrators to categories documents by group and board with documents also able to be appended to a meetings and events calendar which is also found within the secure login area.

Our brief was to deliver a bold new eye-catching website to showcase Midlands Connect's ambitious vision for the region and to enable them to compete with similar bodies such as Transport for the North and England’s Economic Heartland.

Working closely with key internal stakeholders, we developed a website structure that met the needs of their multiple audiences (local, regional, national and international businesses, members of parliament, government departments, public bodies, and the general public), ensuring each are able to access relevant content quickly and easily.

A key component of the site was the development of an interactive map to bring the key projects being investigated, planned and undertaken by Midlands Connect to life. Our design team were tasked to design an interface that enabled users to investigate and explore projects as they relate to the regions that make up the Midlands. Using an adapted version of the instantly recognisable Google Maps, we used graphical layering to display each project. The interactive key project map can be seen here: https://www.midlandsconnect.uk/key-projects/

A secure password-protected area was also developed to enable Midlands Connect to share resources (reports, presentations, meeting packs, etc.) with stakeholders from the local authorities, Chambers of Commerce and LEPs that form steering groups and advisory boards. The resources area allows Midlands Connect administrators to categorise documents by group and board, with documents also able to be appended to a meetings and events calendar, which is also found within the secure login area.
